We've rebuilt much of the system, compiling some of the best features from some of the best open source projects (like glFusion, Joomla, and Geeklog, for example) paired with our own code to bring you fully customized, fully supported packages just for your industry.

PerpetualMotion isn't so much a content management system as it is an overarching philosophy for web deployment.  I've been a graphic artist since 1994 and a website designer since 1996, and in that time I've seen all kinds of Internet technologies emerge.  Some have proven to have lasting power; most have faded away.  What has lasted is the simple fact that Internet technologies, no matter how cool they are by themselves, exist merely to provide one thing: organic action.

What is organic action?  People power.  No website, no matter how great the design; no matter how splashy, funky, or cutting edge the technology; will in itself accomplish anything.  It's the interaction with real people that makes or breaks a website, not the technology behind it.  All kinds of people have all kinds of ideas on how to accomplish this one goal.  If you get 100 web designers in a room I guarantee you're going to get 100 different variations on this theme, but every web developer who has really done the research will agree on this one thing: without people, the best design and the best technology is nothing.

Beyond Web 2.0

I'm sure you've heard this buzzword and maybe wondered what it means.  Simply put, Web 2.0 is the collective term for people power.  It's the idea that drives websites like Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, Wikipedia, and hundreds of other examples of the new social Web. Thousands of people combine together to create something greater than the sum of its parts.  Democracy at its finest.  Technology paving the way for social interaction on an unprecedented scale.

However, the overriding question that we have had since these kinds of technologies have emerged is this: what is all this social interaction really for?  What's the purpose?  Obviously, Web 2.0 is the current buzzword and the current climate of the web, but there's got to be a purpose for all of this.  Why have all of this social interaction, anyway?

The number one result we've seen on sites where Web 2.0 technology is successfully implemented is this: movement.  Ideas are churned around: bad ideas are collectively scrapped (most of the time), good ideas are promoted with enthusiasm, and sales pitches or other meaningless marketing speak is revealed for what it is.  Successful Web 2.0 sites have the freedom to move and change as the climate changes.  They just dance around their competitors' static websites.
